Bail may be posted by paying the entire amount in cash, by using a certified check, money order, or post a bail bond. Personal checks are NOT accepted. The certified check or money order must be made out to the Court of Jurisdiction. No other forms of bail will be accepted. Bail for out of county warrants may be posted in the same manner. You can find a list of bail bond agencies in the Yellow Pages of a phone book.

The booking process may take several hours depending the workload in the jail. Individuals who were under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of arrest but are eligible for release on their own recognizance will remain in custody until they are no longer under the influence. Bail releases may take a little longer if the inmate has been moved to a housing unit.

Inmates who have been released by the courts are also processed as quickly as possible. Delays in obtaining paperwork from the courts will slow the release process. Normally inmates will be released two to four hours after their return from court.

No releases from 2200 hours through 0830 hours.

Individuals who are arrested and booked into jail will be scheduled to appear in court within 72 hours. Court days do not include weekends and public holidays. We do not release information concerning the exact date and time an inmate is scheduled to appear in court.

Court information may be obtained by contacting the clerk of the Court of jurisdiction and/or the inmate’s attorney.

In partnership with IC Solutions, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office has initiated a remote video visitation program. Remote video visitation allows the outside party to schedule and visit with an inmate via tablet, and smart phones. Video visitation increases visiting opportunities 7 days per week. Video visits can be scheduled through Gettingout.com. Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office staff can only assist you with in-house, on site visiting. Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office staff cannot assist you with video visitation. There is a 24/7 helpline, 1-866-516-0115.

NOTE: Depending on an inmate’s classification, housing unit, or disciplinary status, they may be ineligible for video visitation.

Money may be sent to an inmate via the internet atmycarepack.com.Cash or money orders sent through the mail will not be accepted.

Money can be deposited to an inmate’s account 24 hours a day at the jail lobby by using the money kiosk. The moneys deposited into the kiosk may take up to 72 hours to process.

Money must be deposited on an inmate’s account before 11:00 AM on Tuesday if the inmate wishes to use the money for Commissary that Wednesday.

Money may be released to a person outside the jail during normal business hours only (8:00 AM to noon and 1:00 PM to 4:15 PM, Monday to Friday, excluding holidays). The recipient of the money must show proof of identification and they also need to show the bill that the inmate is helping to pay. An inmate’s cash balance will not be given out to any person.

We will not accept property for any inmate. Inmates may release property, excluding clothing. Only inmates sentenced to state prison may release all of their property. Court clothing may be arranged through the inmate’s attorney, or through the Facility supervisor if they do not have an attorney.

The Mendocino County Corrections Facility offers a variety of educational, cognitive and recovery based programs to incarcerated individuals.

These programs include: Alcohol and Narcotics Anonymous, G.E.D. preparation and testing, Adult Education, Life Skills, Substance Abuse & Recovery Education, Anger Management, Horticulture and a variety of religious services.

If you are interested in either volunteering your services or donating educational, recreational, or spiritual materials please contact theInmate Services Coordinator or the Restorative Justice Program Manager.

The following procedure must be followed if you want to marry an inmate:

• You are responsible for finding an ordained minister or judge willing to come to the jail to perform the marriage ceremony (You must pay for the services of the minister or judge. The person performing the marriage and the person being married must go to the County Recorder’s office and obtain an “Affidavit of Physical Inability to Appear” form. The Affidavit will also need to be signed by the inmate wishing to be married. The Affidavit must be taken back to theCounty Recorders office so a marriage license can be issued);
• Pay confidential marriage license fee (This will done at the County Recorder’s office);
• Both persons wishing to be married must be 18 years of age or older;
• Both persons wishing to be married must not have been divorced in the previous 90 days;
• Both persons wishing to be married must be able to show current proof of identification (Inmates who do not have official identification can be identified by a Deputy to the person performing the marriage); and

The marriage ceremony will be performed inside the jail (No other persons other than the person performing the ceremony and the person being married will be allowed to enter the jail. All persons entering the jail will be subject to being searched. The Sheriff’s Office reserves the right to exclude anyone from entering the jail for security reasons. The Jail will also set the date and time of the marriage. NO PROPERTY WILL BE EXCHANGED AND KEPT BY THE INMATE AFTER THE MARRIAGE CEREMONY. The marriage ceremony will be conducted in the visiting area with the glass separating the couple being married. NO PHYSICAL CONTACT WILL BE ALLOWED between the inmate and the person they are marrying.)

A Jail Program Provider is someone who has been granted a security clearance to come into the jail and provide services to inmates. This work may or may not involve direct inmate contact. A Jail Program Provider may be a paid employee or an unpaid volunteer, an individual working alone, or a representative of a private or public organization.

Jail program providers must meet the following minimum qualifications:

• Be 18 years of age or older;
• Be of good character (Evidenced by professional, occupational, or scholastic achievements/references. Absence of good character and past or present poor behavior is deemed to be sufficient for disqualification as a jail program provider);
• Show a potential for or a history of competent performance in the program to be offered;
• Have a valid license or credentials to provide a program which requires a license or credentials;
• Ex-offenders must be out of custody and clear of probation or parole for a period of at least 18 months before their application will be considered.

Each prospective program provider will be interviewed by the Inmate Services Coordinator to determine his or her suitability and eligibility. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office will then conduct a background check using your name, date of birth, social security number and driver’s license number. All traffic tickets should be taken care of before you apply to become a jail program provider. Any outstanding warrants or recent incarcerations will result in refusal by the Mendocino County Sheriffs Office to grant you a security clearance.
