My Cranberry Overnight Steel Cut Oats Recipe is the perfect fall or winter breakfast. All of your favorite flavors come together in one incredibly delicious bowl. Oatmeal is great for breakfast as it really helps you stay full, and is great for lowering cholesterol and helping keep your heart healthy.

Cranberry Overnight Steel Cut Oats Recipe

Our Apple-Cinnamon Steel Cut Oats are one of our most popular recipes and it’s been a while since we had a new crockpot oatmeal recipe! Remember how we said we bought way too many cranberries (when we posted the Cranberry Banana Muffins)?! Well, we put those extra cranberries to good use in this recipe. It smells delicious and tastes even better!

Why Use Steel Cut Oatmeal?

There are two reasons I prefer using steel cut oats. The first is because steel cut oats are less processed and healthier overall than rolled outs if you are looking for that true whole foods experience.

The other reason is that when you cook oats overnight, you will find they can get mushy very easily. Steel-cut oats don’t get overly mushy or break down as much as rolled oats and leaves you with a better texture once done cooking.

How do I Prevent My Overnight Steel Cut Oats from Sticking?

Since these cook, while you are asleep, you may not be stirring them throughout the cooking time. Depending upon how hot your slow cooker cooks, you may find some of the edges stick or get crispier.

I spray my slow cooker to prevent this from happening. You can also use butter, or even use a Crock-Pot liner. I personally, don’t like using liners, but many others use them with good success. Use whatever method you prefer for this recipe, it will turn out delicious no matter how you line the slow cooker!

What If I Can’t Find Whole Fresh Cranberries?

If you can’t find fresh whole cranberries in the produce department, check the freezer section of your grocery store. If for some reason, you don’t find cranberries, you can substitute with another fruit, or simply make this as an apple cinnamon oatmeal instead. I do not recommend using canned cranberry sauces in a recipe like this one.

Apple Cranberry Steel Cut Overnight Oats

Description

These healthy Apple Cranberry Steel Cut Overnight Oats are delicious! Grab your crockpot and make breakfast for the week.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 2 cups gluten-free steel cut oats
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened organic applesauce
  • 2 apples, cored and sliced
  • 1/4 cup Stevia in the Raw
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract (avoid HFCS)
  • 3 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 3 cups water

Instructions

  1. Spray yourcrock potwith non-stick spray (we use an olive oil mister).
  2. Put all the ingredients into your slow cooker and cook overnight on low (around 8 hours).
  3. Once cooked, stir oats to combine and serve.

Notes

  • In order to get an accurate serving size, weigh your entire batch after cooking and divide the total grams by 8. That number will be your serving size.
